On this past weekend’s show we had a special segment from our friend, DJ, producer, and tastemaker Karen P from London. She has been putting on an amazing live series called Broad Casting. The Broad Casting event juxtaposes artists and genres in ways you would never think would work. Artists such as Buraka Som Sistema to Tony Allen to Hypnotic Brass Ensemble to Jimi Tenor to Mulatu Astatke have performed.
On this past week’s Rhythm Lab Radio we had a special guest mix from three of Wisconsin’s finest DJs of Culture Culture. Within one mix, we actually had three mini mixes from OCD Automatic, Diamonds from The Glamour and Double Drop which you can grab after the jump. We also had music from NYC Electro-Soul duo New Look, Mickey Factz, UK’s La Roux, Georgia Anne Muldrow, El Michel’s Affair, Ramir Musotto and more.

We had a very special show this past week. In the first hour we had an interview with Elijah Jones – the frontman of the Atlanta based band The Constellations who we have been championing for over a year now. Then in the second hour we were blessed with a special guest mix from Brooklyn’s DJ Lynnee Denise.
This week’s show brought new music from UK’s Smoove & Turrell, Amon Tobin’s Two Fingers, DJ Vadim, The Constellations, and a classic track from Funkadelic. Check out the rest of the playlist after the jump.
We had a special treat on this epsiode of Rhythm Lab Radio. We were blessed with a special guest mix from DJ Obah entitled Funk Aid for Africa. Funk Aid for Africa is the first in a series of compilations created to raise funds for African children affected by AIDS by harnessing the positive power of music. On this show, we had special treat. An amazing guest mix from the Dutty Artz crew out of Brooklyn. We had three mini-sets from DJ Rupture, Matt Shadetek and DJ Gecko Jones. A first for Rhythm Lab Radio. We also had new music from Wale featuring Lady GaGa, Ghislain Poirier, and a dubstep track from Snoop Dogg.
On this week’s show, we had a great remix of Peter Bjorn and John’s “Nothing To Worry About” from DJ Troublemaker, new music from DJ Vadim, Asher Roth, and TV On the Radio. In the second hour, we had a guest mix from a cat out of Amsterdam named Schobbejak.
On this past week’s Rhythm Lab Radio, we had our monthly segment with UK DJ, producer, and tastemaker Karen P. She presented her top picks for February 2009 which included music from the amazing album from Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics, and the band The Invisible.
Spring is almost here (about time). We have been doing this blog now for two years. Time goes by pretty fast. On this past week’s show we played a lot of spring inspired music inlcuding Jill Scott, Japan’s Deckstream, Daedelus, Mike Posner and George McCrae.
On this past week’s Rhythm Lab Radio we got a special Techno mix from Minneapolis based dj/producer DJ Retroblast. The mix featured a lot of original music from Retroblast. This is real Detroit Techno not the Euro stuff. Plus we had new music from Amon Tobin’s project Two Fingers, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grandmaster Flash and more.
On this past week’s show we had a special mix in honor of Mardi Gras and Carnival. We featured music from New Orleans and Brazil including music from DJ Sandrinho, Bonde Do Role, Dr. John, Hot 8 Brass Band and more.
This is the first show for February, and February is Dilla Month which celebrates the life and career of the producer James Yancey better know as J Dilla. J Dilla unfortunately pass away 3 years ago due to complications to Lupus. So throughout the month we will be playing music by Dilla, remixes by Dilla, tributes to Dilla, and more. On this past week’s show we had music from Chicago’s Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, new music from Matt & Kim and Mr. Scruff plus my man DJ Don Cuco threw down another tight set.
On this past week’s Rhythm Lab Radio, we had our monthly segment with trendsetter, tastemaker, DJ, Producer and all around renaissance woman Karen P. She presented her top 5 tracks for January 2009.
Last week I spent my time in Washington DC for the Inauguration, and it was crazy. I spent my last night at Eighteenth Street Lounge where Nickodemus, Daz-I-Kue, and King Britt spun some killer tunes. After I got back, it took some time to get back into my routine. On this past week’s Rhythm Lab Radio, my man Don Cuco threw down some classic tunes including music from Mahalia Jackson. Then he laid down some serious tunes from the amazing label BBB records out of the UK. In the second hour, we had new music from Thunderheist forthcoming album, new music from Rhymesayer artist P.O.S. forthcoming album Never Better, plus an amazing remix of Sister Sledge’s “We are Family” from Daz-I-Kue.
