On this past week’s Rhythm Lab Radio, we had a special guest mix from Minneapolis based DJ/producer Gigamesh who is part of the remix group Discotech.

Gigamesh has been producing music with the remix/DJ trio DiscoTech for two years, and under his own name for about a year. Many DiscoTech tracks have made it to the #1 position on hypemachine.com, and he has produced official remixes for Def Jam, Sony, Jive and Interscope Records. He and the other DiscoTech members have recently completed an album of a original songs they will be releasing under the moniker “Señor Stereo”, which will feature remixes by Kill the Noise, XXXchange, Estate, and Salva.

As a DJ, Gigamesh mainly plays around Minneapolis at band shows and monthly parties (Honeymoon, Slap, etc). We also had new music from Mapei, Quantic and Combo Barbaro, Doom, Atlanta’s Hollyweerd, and more.

We had a very special show this past week.  In the first hour we had an interview with Elijah Jones – the frontman of the Atlanta based band The Constellations who we have been championing for over a year now. Then in the second hour we were blessed with a special guest mix from Brooklyn’s DJ Lynnee Denise.

Known for her eclectic mixes of Nu Jazz, Classic Hip-hop, Dub and African infused house DJ/Producer lynnee denise of WildSeed Music brings a new texture to the soundscape of Brooklyn, New York. Hailing from Los Angeles, California and getting her start as a DJ on the college radio station WFSK FM, lynnee denise is responsible for creating one of the hottest events in the San Francisco Bay Area, WildSeed Wednesdays. As founder and resident DJ, Lynnee took listeners through weekly cinematic and musical excursions ranging from Women in Reggae, Black British Soul, Black American Jazzl, Afro-Pean Rock, Latin Funk and more. Upon leaving San Francisco in 2002, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and experienced the opportunity to open for underground and nationally known artists such as Ursula Rucker, Joi, Saul Williams, MC Lyte, Eric Roberson, Martin Luther, ,Julie Dexter, Cody Chestnut, Malena Perez, Larry Heard (Mr. Fingers) and Donnie.

Funk Aid for Africa is the first in a series of compilations created to raise funds for African children affected by AIDS by harnessing the positive power of music. It’s a funky soul vitamin for your body, mind & spirit – seamlessly blended into a super tight and tasty stew by DJ ObaH. Plus we also had music from the El Michel’s Affair, DJ Krush, Redman & Method Man, and more.

You can purchased Funk Aid For Africa compilation over here. All proceeds from the sale of this compilation are going towards the construction of a “green” playground for the children of Youth with a Vision (YWAV), a South African organization that runs AIDS prevention programs in Dennilton, South Africa. The playground is part of NEXTAIDS and YWAV’s premier project, a 25 structure children’s village that will be a home for 50 children orphaned by AIDS, an after school center for hundreds of children living off site and an economic hub for the surrounding community.

This is the first show for February, and February is Dilla Month which celebrates the life and career of the producer James Yancey better know as J Dilla.  J Dilla unfortunately pass away 3 years ago due to complications to Lupus.
