Could Flying Lotus be the Coltrane, or Miles Davis of electronic music? Only time will tell. He is definitely causing a major stir in electronic music. The first time I heard of Flying Lotus was through the Adult Swim ads few years back, and then the song Tea Leaf Dancers which made me a fan and believer.
Rhythm Lab Radio was inspired by shows on BBC’s Radio 1 like Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac, and Mary Anne Hobbs. I used to stream the shows every week religiously for many years. Their passion for music and more importantly discovering new music was inspiring. One of the BBC’s DJs in particular really stood out to me was Mary Anne Hobbs.
Spring is almost here (about time). We have been doing this blog now for two years. Time goes by pretty fast. On this past week’s show we played a lot of spring inspired music inlcuding Jill Scott, Japan’s Deckstream, Daedelus, Mike Posner and George McCrae.
A Mr. Oizo track pulled through Flying Lotus’ crazy brain — should be totally otherworldly, right? Interestingly, it’s much tamer than I would have expected.
