[ June 6, 2009; ] Snow is melting; weather is warming up; soon the flowers will be blooming. Once that happens, festival season will be starting. There is a lot of festivals such as Lollapalooza, Pitchfork, Coachella, Bonaroo, and others with huge lineups. However, in the city of brotherly love, there is a little festival known as The Roots Picnic.
J.Period is one of the most prolific and creative mixtape DJs around. He put together J.Period+Game Rebellion’ Searching For Rick Rubin which was my favorite mixtape of 2008. Well J. Period has done again with “The [Abstract] Best, Volume 1 (yes there will be a volume 2). The mixtape is a tribute to Kamaal the Abstract better known to most as Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest.
Mick Boogie had a great year releasing a mulitude of mixtapes fron Viva La Hova(Coldplay+Jay-Z), Adele 1988, Motivation with DJ Benzi, Unbelievable-Tribute to Biggie and more. He is setting himself to be the king of the mixtape dj in 2009. Well Mick is’nt finish just yet for 2008. He just dropped “The Best of 2008 Mixtape” along with Terry Urban.
2008 is the year of the mixtape. From Wale to Talib Kweli to the king of the mixtape Lil Wayne, this year has seen some real good mixtapes. Some of the mixtapes are better than some ‘official releases’. Cleveland based Kid Cudi’s “A Kid Named Cudi” mixtape is definitely no different. I am currently listening [...]
