On the foot of Karma EP and right before their second full length album called Abundance due on Inauguration, PPP delivers the Abundance Mixtape. The mixtape features exclusive remixes, blends by Okayplayer’s DJ Topspin plus previously unreleased material. Based off what I saw at Southpaw at the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival, PPPs new album is going to one of the most powerful and soulful albums of 2009. You can grab the mixtape over at Fresh Selects.
The New Year is starting off just right. I got some good beer, some good food, and now a free Bjork inspired beat tape from Los Angeles based producer Dert that is called Talk Strange. As some of you know, Bjork is one of my favorite artists period.
Mick Boogie had a great year releasing a mulitude of mixtapes fron Viva La Hova(Coldplay+Jay-Z), Adele 1988, Motivation with DJ Benzi, Unbelievable-Tribute to Biggie and more. He is setting himself to be the king of the mixtape dj in 2009. Well Mick is’nt finish just yet for 2008. He just dropped “The Best of 2008 Mixtape” along with Terry Urban.
Just in time for the holidays from DJ/Producer I.N.T. from Amsterdam has put out a little holiday beat record entitled “Welcome to Christmas Wonderland”. I.N.T has produce for many artists inlcuding Frank N Dank, Kid Sublime, and others. Did I mention he is also a MC, but works more on his production as of late. Find more about I.N.T here.
How many UK female MCs do you know? You probably can name at least one. Most likely the one you would name would be Lady Sovereign. There is also Tor which you can hear on Rhyhtm Lab Radio. The one I’m about the tell you about got an amazing flow and style, and someone to watch in 2009. Her name is No Lay.
Common recenetly released his album “Universal Mind Control” a couple of weeks ago. Sonically it was a departure from his last album “Finding Forever”. He went more with an electro(nic) sound with help from Pharrell and Kanye. There are few stand-out tracks on there, but it is not a solid album. Also the album is quite short though and that is where these two mixtapes come in especially if you can’t get enough of the Chicago MC.
Here is the latest Video for “Artistic Integrity from Wale’s Mixtape About Nothing. The Video is directed by Rik Codero. He is the same director of the latest Roots videos and the latest NAS video. This guy turns videos out like nobody’s business. The video is inspired by the movie Being John Malcovich.
